8 January 2014 Minister Bogdan Zdrojewski held a press conference in connection with the discovery of an unknown document of Katyn massacre, which was also attended by Krystyna Piórkowska, a researcher of archives in the US and the UK, author of "Anglojęzyczni świadkowie Katynia", Andrzej Kunert, Secretary of the Council for the Protection of Memory of Combat and Martyrdom and Slawomir Debski, Director of the Centre.
During the conference Krystyna Piórkowska presented previously unknown 8-page testimony of Col. John H. Van Vliet Jr, made in Paris in May 1945. The document is a witness report by Van Vliet who witnessed the exhumation in Katyn forest on 13 May 1943.
-There Is no compromise when it comes to learning about the Katyn massacre, and about any other genocide. This case is interesting, because we disclose documents which for many years were hidden by countries like the United Kingdom. The case will be eventually when all materials bout Katyn massacre are known - said Minister Bogdan Zdrojewski.
The document contains a previously unknown names of other witnesses' exhumation, the British officers - prisoners of war. According to Piórkowska, their names and reports were deliberately kept secret for years, and access to information is still difficult.
The aim of the conference was to inform the public about undertaken by the Polish state institutions efforts to combat the Katyn lie.
