Stalin and his neighbours 1939–1945

The conference entitled “Stalin and his neighbours 1939–1945” seeks to analyse the existing interpretations of the aims of USSR policy towards Poland and other countries of the region during World War II, and to identify research gaps.

The idea to organise this conference was directly inspired by the 80th anniversary of General Władysław Sikorski’s trip to the USSR. The Polish prime minister and commander-in-chief intended to hold personal talks with the highest authorities of the USSR in order to facilitate the settlement of disputable issues between Poland and the USSR in the future, and to maintain cooperation in the war against Germany, established after the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Distinguished experts on the subject from the Czech Republic, Poland, Russia and Slovakia have been invited to deliver talks at the conference.
