For the first time in its seven-year history, the Football Championship of the Border Area for Boys and Girls, took place on the Russian pitch in the Kaliningrad Oblast.

Three months after the extremely exciting tournament in Malbork, children from Poland and Russia met at the Polish-Russian Children's Football Championship "Border Cup" in a seaside city, Svetlogorsk. It was not only an opportunity for a  rematch but also for strengthening friendship between young female and male footballers, and the participating sports clubs. The games took place at the stadium of  Baltiya Svetlogorsk club, which during the World Cup in Russia was a base for Serbian national team. In addition, the tournament participant visited one of the stadiums of Russian World Cup, in Kaliningrad, where four group stage matches were held.

24 teams: 10 Polish (Warmian-Masurian and Pomeranian Voivodships) and 14 Russian (Kaliningrad Oblast), 240 children from Poland and Russia fought for three days to win the Polish-Russian Children's Football Championship "Border Cup". The tournament was intended for boys and girls aged 9-12, who played matches on fields of Baltiya Svetlogorsk, in "every team with every team" system and for the victory in the playoff system. In total, 56 matches were held, and additionally, before the inauguration of the Championships, friendship matches were played by mixed Polish-Russian teams.

"Football is one of the most popular sports in the world. Football competition arouses great emotions – globally and locally – as we can see both on the occasion of the Champions League and the local games. The idea of the championship was created precisely in order to use these positive emotions to bring together young athletes from Poland and Russia. I am glad that the tournament is permanently inscribed in the calendar of cross-border sports events. It's not only about competition but also about promoting fair-play and healthy lifestyle principles," said Ernest Wyciszkiewicz, director of the Centre.
